A number of luxury RV resort companies on Lake Shuswap (BC) were at the Edmonton RV Expo in February 2010. Here's brief overview of these beach vacation home sites.

The Shuswap Lake area of British Columbia, Canada is a vacation paradise. Hot summers and temperate winters make it a popular spot for year-round recreation. Considered the houseboat capital of Canada, the Shuswap is also home to a number of sterling RV destinations such as the luxury RV resorts highlighted here in reverse alphabetic order.

West Beach Village RV Resort

Calling itself the "best value in the Shuswap", West Beach Village is on the "uncivilized" north shore, not far west of Scotch Creek. This is an older park that is being renovated and upgraded. The resort opened May 1, 2010 and will be open for year-round use. The 30-acre site includes

  • Up to 1800 ft. of shoreline (their promotional materials give varying figures)
  • Boat launch
  • Spring-fed lagoon (see images below)
  • 36 slip marina
  • 165 RV sites, many on the beach or lagoon, that include storage shed, full hookups, parking for 2 vehicles
  • On-site motel*, lodge, park models
  • Boardwalk and shops*
  • Pool* and hot tub*
  • Restaurant*
  • Children's Playground.

Most of the RV sites are slated for purchase but rental units are available. Features marked with an asterisk (*) are proposed for future development.

Because it is close to Roderick-Haig Brown Provincial Park, the Adams River salmon run, and the Scotch Creek beach and day-use area, West Beach Village would make a good base for exploring the north shore.

Silver Sands RV Resort

Silver Sands RV Resort in Sicamous BC is located on a bight of the Eagle River at the north side of the city, "snuggled at the foothills of the Monashee Mountains" as their website, Silver-Sands.ca, points out. Silver Sands is within walking distance of

  • Mara Lake
  • Shuswap Lake
  • Downtown Sicamous
  • City Beach
  • Eagle River Nature Park.

Hyde Mountain golf course is a short drive away.

The location of Silver Sands makes it a terrific spot for canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and cycling and, of course, fishing. ATV sports are also popular in the area.

The resort is a fully-serviced year-round gated community with

  • large clubhouse
  • recreation area
  • showers, laundry
  • water (available all year), sewer, cable/ high speed internet and 70A (amp) service.

"There are 57 lots left in Phase II. It started with 79 in 2008. The Park was started in 2004, with lots selling in the fall of 2005," resort manager Milo Long told Suite101 via email.

Although the lots are being sold, Silver Sands also rents for periods from two weeks to five years and has a "try before you buy" rental plan where a portion of the rental fee is applied against the purchase price.

Blind Bay RV Resort

The community of Blind Bay is on the south shore of Lake Shuswap (west of Salmon Arm). The Blind Bay Resort has been in operation for almost 40 years (as Sportsman RV Resort) and has recently been opened for year-round access.

  • 12.73 acres
  • 93 serviced sites - with additional sites and park cottages being developed.
  • Sandy beach
  • Private marina
  • Washrooms, Showers, Laundry
  • Recreational activities
  • Heated pool and year round hot tub
  • Grocery store, post office, liquor store, bakery on-site or near by.

The Blind Bay Resort has one section for "deluxe" 70A all-year sites and another section with 30A service that is available for public rental and overflow from spring through fall.

These luxury RV resorts offer the RVer a chance to purchase a beach vacation lot with full services and amenities. The availability of beach vacation rental sites in these luxury RV resorts make it possible to stop by, stay a while, and decide if ownership is a good idea.
